Full-Stack Web Development with Python Programming
Our vision for the Women in Technology program is equal representation of women in STEM fields.
Our mission is to empower women through technology training to launch their careers in the innovative and growing tech industry.
We strive to ensure our students have the confidence, skills, and networks needed to reach their potential.
Program Description
The Women in Technology (WIT) program includes three parts:
Full Stack Web Development Training
Our instructors are professionals from SozenTech and are up-to-date on trends and job market requirements to help our students develop the right skills to meet the needs of tech companies and recruiters.
Our program aims to prepare our students for a typical work environment by focusing on self-directed online study, group and individual projects, peer and instructor feedback, group discussions, and instructor-facilitated lessons.
Platforms and coding languages: Python, Scratch, Figma, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, Javascript, JQuery, Git, React, Express, SQL, Firebase, Test Driven Development using Mocha and Chai, Azure, and Microsoft PowerApps training.
Duration: 19 weeks
Delivery: Online via Zoom and Microsoft Teams
Employment and Power Skills (EPS)
Today’s job market requires adaptable, collaborative, and creative, problem solvers. EPS training ensures graduates have the necessary interpersonal skills to be successful in their workplace.
EPS training topics include:
Problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration, and professional communication skills
Enhancing employment skills in the areas of resume writing, presentation, interviewing, and networking
Learn about Canadian workplace culture, conflict management strategies, and managerial styles
Duration: 4 to 5 weeks
Delivery: Online via Zoom
Practicum Job Placement
An increasing number of tech jobs are not advertised on job search sites, instead, they are most often acquired through pre-existing connections and demonstrated competency.
Our students are interviewed and selected by WIT partners for 4-6-week job placements in the Calgary tech industry. This gives students the hands-on experience, networking, and references needed to gain employment in the tech sector.
Placements are based on individual career goals and previous experience.
Duration: 4-6-weeks
Delivery: Online or in-person depending on practicum employer needs.
Program Eligibility
In order to qualify for the program, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Must have a minimum CLB 6.5 or equivalent in reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
Priority is given to those born outside of Canada and are currently Permanent Residents, have refugee status, or are of Indigenous ancestry (Metis, Inuit, First Nations). Canadian Citizens born outside Canada may also be considered.
Preference is given to candidates living in Calgary and the surrounding area as practicum placements and networking events will require in-person attendance.
Priority is given to those who have not taken any educational programs in North America within the last three years.
