Bhumi Makwana
Meet Bhumi Makwana, one of our Women in Technology program graduates. She shared with us brief details of her journey from moving to Canada to starting a successful career in Calgary.
“I developed an interest in the field of Information Technology (IT) in my previous job as a Business Analyst in my home country. After moving to Canada in 2020, it was difficult to find a job, particularly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I came to know about the WIT program through social media. I found the course outline to be practical and impressive and applied immediately.”.
Talking about her experience of being a student, she added, "During the six months in the program, it was very hectic and a bit challenging for me as I was in an intensive study program after many years, but the result is totally awesome! A big thank you to the Making Changes Association and the WIT team for giving me the opportunity that has resulted in my transitioning to a fulfilling career."
As part of the program, the WIT program participants get a paid/unpaid internship of 4-6 weeks in the Calgary tech industry that gives them hands-on experience, networking, and references needed to gain employment in the tech sector. Right after starting her internship, to Bhumi’s surprise, she immediately got a one-year contract and is currently working as an Analyst at Pembina Pipeline Ltd!
Bhumi, we are so proud of your achievements and wish you all the best for a successful career!
